BDS & Beyond | Due to the popular demand, 'BDS and Beyond' is returning again this year! This workshop will focus on various career pathways within dentistry. The workshop will aim to inspire and show you what can be achieved soon after graduation from dental school. Saeid Haghri, founder of 'Make a Dentist' and Dentopaedia, will speak about expanding your skills and improving confidence as a young practitioner through his own experiences as a young dentist. He will also talk about awards and the impact they can have to a young clinician.

Hands-on Restorative: All-Ceramic Anterior Crown Preps

This exclusive, hands-on workshop will provide top tips to achieve the excellent anterior all-ceramic crown preps. Dr. Jurga Doherty will go through some of her cases and then do a demonstration on how she achieves her preps. Delegates who attend this workshop will take part in a practical session using portable equipment to apply the knowledge given by the tutor. This is truly a special opportunity to learn valuable tips from the tutor hands-on application.

Hands-on Implants

New to this year, the hands-on implant workshop gives students the opportunity to learn about the course of implant treatment as well as getting the opportunity to place implants on models. This workshop will be led by Dr. Neil Patel, an Oral Surgeon and experience in the implant field. This workshop gives you the chance to experience an area of dentistry in high demand and something which is barely touched on at university.

Hands-on Restorative: Restoring the Class II Cavity

Dr. Craig Jack who has an MSc in fixed and removable prosthodontics and teaches at the dental hospital will be covering how to restore class II cavities using sectional matrices. Equipment provided by Dentsply, guests will get to experience the latest technology by using the new Palodent sectional matrix system and bulk-fill composite.

Paediatrics – ‘What's the fuss - they're just baby teeth?’ | In your dental career, you will be treating paediatric patients everyday. Not only is it vital that you treat them well, you need to be able to manage and coordinate their treatment plan to give them the best care possible. This workshop will be run by Dr. Siobhan Barry and Dr. Anjali Kandiah, Paediatric Consultants, and will feature a short presentation on paediatric treatment planning, followed by interactive cases where you will discuss the key elements of treatment planning you have just learnt.

Suturing | Having featured as a workshop in every BUDRC so far and receiving brilliant feedback each time, the suturing workshop will be returning again this year. It provides a great opportunity for students to learn several suturing techniques on high-quality equipment, under the guidance of skilled professionals. It’s a skill every dental student should have in their armamentarium.

The Dental Practice Journey | Mark Willings, will share his vast wealth of experience on both self-development and being part of running two successful NHS&Private practices. He will aim to demonstate the challenges faced in setting up a practice. Owning a practice is the dream of many dental students and this workshop will aim to bring it to life and discuss the aspects that matter the most.

Wax Carving | When placing a restoration, it is vital to know the anatomy of the tooth well in order to make the restoration a successful and aesthetic one. How can you place good restorations without knowing the anatomy? This workshop gives you the opportunity to learn the intricate design of posterior teeth in a practical way as well as an opportunity to take part in wax-carving a tooth.

Dental Trauma | This session is run by a senior lecturer from TiptonTraining, a leader in courses for dental professionals. Dr. Matthew Holyoak, a senior lecturer at Tipton will speak about definitions, case examples and management of trauma. Definitely one to not miss!

Forensic Odontology | The forensic odontology workshop aims to introduce undergraduates to an area of dentistry not experienced at university. It is being run by staff and PhD students from the University of Dundee and will be very fun and interactive!

This year also featured double the number of hands-on workshops as 2017, giving you the chance to add some invaluable skills to your armamentarium taught by some of the best in the dental industry.
