The 2015 BUDRC was the first of its kind as national research conference. With over 200 national delegates and world-class professors, it had resounding effects with the students benefiting greatly and 92% of delegates said they would return next year. Lectures proved to be inspiring and thought provoking. The workshops insightful and educational; for example, only 30% of delegates felt confident in their understanding of placing an aesthetic, direct posterior composite restoration before the workshop. This rose to 74% afterwards, through the excellent guidance of our tutors.
We have made great improvements for the 2016 conference. The day will consist of morning talks, based on cutting-edge research presented by world-renowned speakers. Guests will be offered a buffet-lunch alongside the opportunity to visit sponsor stalls and interact with other students and staff. The afternoon will hold interactive workshops in multiple fields to raise the student’s core clinical skills, giving them a competitive edge. We will also be hosting a charity raffle to give delegates a chance to win big prizes, last years included Colgates top of the range electric tootbrush and free loupes.
This year, the full day conference will aim to invite over 300 students and will be held on Saturday 27th February 2016.
It definitely is not a day to miss, the world-renowned speakers and leading tutors will be providing hints and tips to give you a competitive edge over your peers. It is also a fantastic way to socialise with fellow dental students from around the country. It will be aimed at all years, BDS 1-5 and will cater for all skill levels. Whether you’re a fresh first year or an experienced 5th year, there will be something for everyone to gain by attending this national conference.
The BUDRC2016 has been organised by the Manchester Undergraduate Dental Research Society in collaboration with the Manchester School of Dentistry. The school has been very supportive of the student committee which brings you this conference. Professors Paul Coulthard and Helen Worthington have invested time and resources into the conference which have made it truly exceptional and of a very high calibre. We are very grateful to the support provided and we hope this is reflected in the high standard which we set to deliver. Without their support this conference would not have achieved the great successes and set the foundation for student research conferences nationally.

Because of this high-quality research, many other cities across the globe have made links with Manchester to collaborate in producing better research protocols.
