5 Ways To Keep Healthy While Studying

With exam season just around the corner, we’ve put in some tips together to make sure you can get the best out of yourself this year:

  1. Stay Active

Studying is a very stagnant activity, one where you will be sat for hours leaning over a notebook or computer. All this time sat down might tire your brain out, but not your body, and therefore, when you sleep, it won’t be comfortable. It’s very crucial to exercise both body and mind in order to get a good night’s sleep and be the most productive you can be.

2. Keep in Touch

When everyone’s studying, you might barely get to see your friends. It can be beneficial to organise events in advance even it is is just dinner, seeing your friends can give you something to look forward to and make you feel less solitary. It might also help to call a family member or friend who you don’t get to see too often. Talking to someone who knows you well can recharge your batteries and give you a decent distraction from work for a bit.

3. Spend Time Wisely

It’s important you don’t spend all your available time working or even thinking about working. Make sure you are taking time for yourself to do social activities, extracurricular work or even spending time alone. You will find that spending free time to do other things may make the time you do have to work, more productive as you have things to do which you are looking forward to more.

4. Stay Hydrated

Dehydration can cause a lot of issues like a lack of concentration, tiredness or even dizziness. All of these can cause you to feel too ill to work or can become even worse when you force yourself to keep busy. Try to take a bottle of water with you everywhere, whether it’s an exam, lecture or just at your desk, keeping hydrated is a small but key way to look after yourself. Tea and coffee both count towards water intake too!

5. Eat Well

When busy studying, it can be tempting to not eat for hours or constantly snack. Both of these are bad practice as you’ll either be too hungry to concentrate or not hungry enough for a proper meal. Take regular breaks and eat small but often. Plan out what you will be having to eat at meal times so you can plan preparation time. Make sure to treat yourself every so often with a take out though – all that hard work makes you hungry!
